The Quest for Blueprints

Blueprints for a 23 year old house are hard to find. That's what i'm discovering in my most recent project. Having purchased a home in West Jordan, I am now embarking on a mission to put the whole building into autocad, so as to more easily plan out the remodel I want to do. Problem is - 23 years ago all architectural drafting was done on actual blueprints.

The first place I checked was with the County recorder's office. They told me the City of West Jordan would have taken all such documents with them when they incorporated. They referred me to the city of West Jordan recorder's office, where I was told blueprints on new construction are kept for one year, then destroyed. I did, however find the name of the architectural firm that designed the plans, as well as the developer who built it. I googled Allred Despear and Soffe, the firm who designed the building. It turns out there is now no such firm registered in Utah, but there is an Allred Soffe Wilkinson and Nichols with a local P.O. box.
I called the firm and was greeted by a very helpful young lady who took my information and promised to follow up with me when she found someone who had been with the firm for that long.

I decided to cover my bases by creating another lead with the developer, TradeWest. Turns out, there is no company by the name of TradeWest that deals in homes in Utah. According to the state public records, though, there is a Trade West Homes, and a Trade West Development. I googled both and found Trade West Homes first.

I called the number lilsted, and was assisted by another young lady who informed me the two Trades West were incorporated together recently, so she can try to find someone to follow up with me. She took my info, and promised to have someone follow up with me next week.

Update: I got a call back from Coralie at ASWN+ (the architectural firm), and she regretfully informed me there was a flood back in the late 1980s that wiped out the archives from that time period. I would imagine she is referring to the flood of 1983, in which city creek backed up and covered downtown salt lake in several feet of water. I don't see how that would have obliterated the records for a project completed the next year, but regardless the firm does not have any records from the period.

Damn.

Help me Trade West Development, you're my only hope!
