Gas Pumps

With fuel costs at or above $3.00 per gallon, I have become increasingly concerned with the accuracy of the fuel pumps that dispense that precious liquid into my vehicle. I'm not talking about the extra few drops you can shake out of the hose if you are really stingy. I'm talking about literally ounces of petrol wasted on inaccurate pumps that say they are pumping a gallon when in fact they could be pumping slightly less. With millions of people pumping an average of 30 gallons of gas into their vehicle per week, this ammounts to tens of thousands of dollars per month worth of fuel.

But fear not! In the state of Utah, a plucky group of regulators under the aegis of the Department of Agriculture: Weights and Measures bureau are there looking out for us. Every year and a half or so, these intrepid individuals check each and every certified gas pump, checkout scanner and grocery scale in the state for accuracy, in the process i'm sure inhaling more gasoline fumes than Hugo Chavez on a whistle stop campaign.

I know I sleep better at night knowing they're out there.

"Hugo Chavez on a whistle stop tour." Good one!
Why aren't all these jobs advertised on line or in the newspaper? Lots of college grads could use an opportunity like that.
