0 for 5: Down But Not Out

Well we didn't get the West Jordan house. It may be a good thing, after all. It turns out we had the highest bid by about $1,000.00, but they accepted another offer because it was not contingent on an inspection.

It seems to me since an inspection is a standard practice on a house that old, and I find it a bit suspect they don't want the buyer to be able to back out if the inspection turns up something horrible.
Nevertheless, it's a bit heartbreaking to lose yet another bid. I'm starting to get philosophical about the whole thing.

The process of shopping for a home is kind of like dating. You scope out the online sites to find attractive prospects with decent profiles. If you like what you see, you pick a nice afternoon to go out in person, where you can check for attraction in 3D. Once in a while, you feel the pangs of love. If you are really lucky, the feeling will be mutual.

So far, our dates have been unimpressed. We have gotten a few second dates, a few goodnight kisses, but we've never gone further than that goodnight kiss. We've wanted to, but at a glance, we're not that much to look at.
The first rejection was the hardest. It hurt.
We could have jumped into bed with a sure thing - probably drunk, dumb, and with low self esteem.
But we're not looking for a quick lay, we're looking for a long term relationship. If both partners don't need each other equally much, we can't take it to heart if our date makes a clean break after the first date. It's disappointing, and it hurts, but at least we can respect ourselves in the morning.

But oh, the metaphore isn't finished. We've found two promising profiles at another online dating site, and we're arranging a time to meet for coffee after work. These two haven't seen much action in the last few weeks, so hopefully they'll be less quick to reject us out of hand. If we're lucky, love will bloom. If we're really lucky, it will be mutual.
